Designing a label that tells a story in every sip

I had the opportunity to bring that dream to life in collaboration with Lecavalier Cellars for their very first bottling run, which included 12 varietals. Together, we crafted a label that captured their story—celebrating their passion for winemaking, their commitment to sustainability, and the land that inspires it all.

Lecavalier Cellars is located in Penryn, CA—an area with a deep agricultural legacy dating back to the Gold Rush. By the mid-1800s, Placer County had become a national leader in fruit and wine production, with early European immigrants planting the first grapevines in 1848. The region’s rich soil and pioneering spirit were central to the brand story the vintners wanted to tell.

Alternative Label Designs

For their first bottling, we collaborated on a label design that honors this heritage while setting a refined tone for their future. The final design features a subtle topographic pattern in the background—an intentional nod to the land the winery calls home. It’s a visual tribute to the terroir and history that shape every bottle.

Alternative Label Designs

From concept to completion, the design reflects Lecavalier’s commitment to sustainability, tradition, and storytelling. The labels were even printed on a specialty material that makes them easy to remove, allowing both the bottle and label to be recycled and reused—just one more way the design supports the values behind the wine.

Designed with longevity in mind, this design could be adapted to include tiered vintages. They have the goal of offering everything from everyday table wine to more higher end offerings. The options below were examples created to show where we could take the more top-shelf vintages.
